About
I am Lucy. I am trained as a Sustainable Architect. I specialise in:
- Design Services
- Design Management
- Sustainability Services
- Project Management and Community Engagement
Design Services
I can offer architectural services from feasibility through to planning and construction. I have experience across all RIBA workstages. I enjoy creating sustainable site strategies and prioritising human and planetary wellbeing.
I have specialist knowledge in natural materials, low carbon designs and passive principles. I have worked extensively in social housing and have been involved in developing a timber and natural material based MMC (modern methods of construction) panelised system.
Design Management
I can bridge the gap between creative design and delivering within budget. I have experience in co-ordinating multi-disciplinary design teams; and working with build teams to complete pioneering projects with accelerated programmes.
I enjoy aligning high sustainability targets with commercial constraints without compromising quality.
Sustainability Services
Recent projects have had ambitious sustainability targets that I am able to advise on following training from Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) in Sustainable Architecture.
I do thermal / energy / lighting calculations at early feasibility stages to help inform sustainable design.
Project Management
Co-ordinating design teams and facilitating design meetings and engagement. I can also offer community engagement services. Co-ordination to de-risk projects from an early stage.
I have worked on lots of difficult sites – with underground services or steep slopes – and am used to coming up with innovative solutions to deal with these problems where others have given up.
Sustainability comes as standard and I am used to engaging others to weave their designs into more sustainable and cost effective strategies that enhance developments.

I can help you prepare a planning application, co-ordinate consultants, and organise community engagement events. I can support you with different natural material options and site sustainability strategies.
I can help you with:
- Drawing and report work for planning applications.
- Co-ordination of design teams and client liaison.
- Organising and executing community engagement events.
- Data driven sustainability with early stage passive design calculations to test sustainable design performance at feasibility stage.
- Sustainable strategies for sites.
- Natural material options for sites.
- Unlocking tricky sites: I have had experience with steep slopes and complex underground utilities.
- Knowledge on low carbon modern methods of construction and optimizing timber panelised systems for speeding up construction schedules.
I can co-ordinate documents and drawings, and check that designs are thought through and work on a practical level on site.
I can help you with:
- Co-ordinating documents and drawings to enable release of construction issue information to site team.
- Designing with healthy, breathable, bio-based materials that lower bills while improving indoor air quality.
- Proactive link between design and on site teams to resolve queries rapidly.
I can guide you on natural materials and sustainable product choices. I can support your projects with aspirational sustainability targets, helping to make them achievable.
I can help you with:
- Developing sustainability strategies for sites and projects.
- Advising on natural materials specifications.
- Aligning aspirational sustainability targets (Net zero, Future homes etc.) with practical commercial and budget constraints.
- Running early-stage passive design comparisons and thermal/energy calculations to de-risk projects before committing to detailed designs.
I can design an extension, show you ways to maximise your space more, create an annex or a home office, or design a dream house on a plot of land.
I can help you with:
- Initial ideas and their feasibility.
- Navigating the process with the professional assurance of an ARB Registered Architect.
- Planning applications – the documents and drawings, any consultant engagements needed, and liaising with the planning team.
- Choosing of materials, finishes, mechanical systems and products – including the sustainable, health and cost implications of different products and systems.
- Working with a contractor to deliver the end goal successfully.
Work I've Shaped
7 Homes for the Homeless
A pioneering social housing project delivering seven homes to expand Places for People's existing hostel. We navigated a challenging 40-degree slope and complex stakeholder requirements. We successfully utilized natural materials within the panelised construction. The project translates ambitious sustainability (social and environmental) into actionable reality, proving that natural materials can be deployed effectively within tight budgets and that those moving in could live with dignity. I was involved in concept to completion of this project. It won the Bristol Civic Design Award on its completion in 2025 which was a privilege to receive. Heating and hot water come from a shared ASHP. The homes are expected to cost just £5 a week in energy and store an estimated 122 tonnes of carbon dioxide in the building envelope.

14 homes and common house
This project develops a building and shared living model rooted in long-term stewardship. This neighbourhood scale project involves an ecologically sustainable masterplan across site and embeds the land, materials and homes within this collective ownership model. This projects looks to wider systemic change of how we live as communities.
This project is currently in the planning process.

Natural Materials Showcase
An inspiring visitor centre for an environmental charity, designed to serve as a living demonstration of human interaction with the natural world. The project integrates sustainable strategies, featuring use of rammed earth, glulams, and a sweeping green roof. The project was winner of the “Most Innovative and Sustainable Initiative” at the 2021 OxPropFest awards.

Natural Materials & MMC
I have experience of working with specialist and affordable housing providers to deliver housing to specific specifications. I have implemented sustainable strategies and solutions while maintaining budgets and quality. I have been able to translate ambitious feasibility targets into real life projects. Targets include: future homes standards, net zero targets, carbon and energy (embodied and operational) targets, circular economy principals and passive building targets.
Recent early stage projects have been based in Bristol, Waltham Forest (London) and Burton on Trent.
Affordable Housing
Various Locations, UK
Specialised supported living
Specialist care needs provided alongside innovative natural material choices and sustainable MEP systems.
These two homes for a housing provider providing supported living were delivered while the care home remained active.
Natural materials were specified throughout while delivering on comprehensive internal specifications to meet the housing associations needs.

MMC / Natural Materials / Timber Systems
Throughout my time working with Agile I was involved in optimising panelised construction systems to improve site efficiency and reduce carbon footprints. We aligned high sustainablity targets with commercial constraints without compromising quality.
I have worked on improving the carbon storage of projects, and creating projects that are net zero or net positive in energy use. Valley View was the first trade for Carbon storage and social value by Agile Property with Shakespeare Martineau.

Three affordable modular homes
Working in partnership with Lands End Peninsula Community Land Trust (LEPCLT) to deliver three low-carbon, affordable modular homes for local people. Built on a complex, disused play area, the project utilized modular construction and screw pad foundations to address underground utility constraints and support local housing needs.

Housing for refugees
A housing project in Bristol delivering low-carbon, community-focused accommodation for a refugee family as part of the Baptist Church's mission to help meet demand for safe accommodation.
The development has been designed not only to have a very small carbon footprint, but to reduce the impacts of climate change. The materials used in the construction (predominantly timber, straw or other biobased insulation) capture carbon in the fabric of the buildings and can be recycled at the end of their useful life meaning there are very few upfront carbon emissions, and the development is a net store of carbon. Jackpads, rather than traditional concrete foundations, will be used to support the structure – helping to reduce the climate and natural resource impacts of using concrete.
